The authors introduce a new notion of order for a linear invariant family \({\mathfrak M}\) of locally biholomorphic mappings \(f\) of the unit ball \(B^n\) of \(\mathbb{C}^n\) to \(\mathbb{C}^n\) as \(\sup{1\over 2}\|D^2f(0)\|\), \(f\in{\mathfrak M}\). In terms of this order, they obtain sharp bounds on the growth of \(\|f\|\) and linear distortion \(\|Df\|\), as well as various results on univalence, convexity, starlikeness and the geometric properties of the mappings. As a consequence, the following covering theorem is proved: for every mapping \(f\) in a family with the norm \(\alpha\), the image \(f(B^n)\) contains the ball \(\|w\|< {1\over 4\alpha}\) as a schlicht ball.
