The paper under review is an extensive study in the field of relative Nielsen fixed point theory. The author introduces two new Nielsen type numbers which are shown to be lower bounds for the number of fixed points on \(X\) and on the closure of \(X-A\) in \(X\), respectively, for a self map \(f:(X,A) \to (X,A)\) of a pair of compact polyhedra. Some open questions from \textit{H. Schirmer} [Contemp. Math. 152, 291-309 (1993; Zbl 0805.55001)] are answered. Several illustrative examples are also given.
