The paper gives a subsequent version of the solution to the well-known problem of how to approximate an arbitrary 3-variate polynomial, which clearly can be non-separable by some separable one. The solution is applied to the design of the state-space structure of the required digital 3-D filter. A new algorithm is presented together with a numerical example. One thing that can be a source of real problems but is omitted in the paper, is that all such approximations must preserve the stability/instability of the original system. If this does not happen, such a method is useless.
