This paper is a continuation of authors' previous investigations (the first with \textit{Gr. Arsene}) [Mich. Math. J. 34, 201-216 (1987; Zbl 0632.47031), and J. Oper. Theory 22, No. 2, 345-367 (1989; Zbl 0725.47032)]. Let \({\mathcal H}_ i\), \({\mathcal H}'_ 2\) \((i=1,2)\) be Krein spaces, and consider the Krein spaces \(\widetilde {\mathcal H}_ i\equiv {\mathcal H}_ i[+]{\mathcal H}'_ i\) \((i=1,2)\). A basic assumption is that there are given two operators, \(T_ r\) from \(\widetilde {\mathcal H}_ 1\) to \({\mathcal H}_ 2\) and \(T_ c\) from \({\mathcal H}_ 1\) to \(\widetilde {\mathcal H}_ 2\) such that \(T_ r|_{{\mathcal H}_ 1}\) and \(PT_ c\) coincide, where \(P\) is the canonical projection from \(\widetilde {\mathcal H}_ 2\) to \({\mathcal H}_ 2\), and \(\kappa_ 1\equiv\kappa^ -[I-T_ c^ \# T_ c]<\infty\) and \(\kappa_ 2\equiv \kappa^ -[I-T_ rT_ r^ \#]<\infty\). Here \(^ \#\) denotes the Krein space adjoint and \(\kappa^ -[A]\) for a \(J\)- selfadjoint operator \(A\) is the rank of the spectral projection of the selfadjoint operator \(JA\) corresponding to \((-\infty,0)\). The authors present a necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of an operator \(\widetilde T\) from \(\widetilde {\mathcal H}_ 1\) to \(\widetilde {\mathcal H}_ 2\) such that \(\widetilde {T}|_{{\mathcal H}_ 1}=T_ c\), \(P\widetilde {T}=T_ r\), \(\kappa^ -[I- \widetilde{T}^ \# \widetilde{T}] =\kappa_ 1\) and \(\kappa^ -[I- \widetilde {T} \widetilde{T}^ \#]=\kappa_ 2\), and then give a complete parametrization of all opertors satisfying the conditions mentioned above. As applications the authors discuss a problem of selfadjoint extension of symmetric operators and a variant of lifting of commutants in Krein spaces.
