This paper is devoted to the study of a new form of a model describing a forced Josephson junction circuit. Thus the phase space is a cylinder, due to the fact that the nonlinearities are given by sinusoidal functions of the phase error (an angular variable for this type of problem). The model's newness consists in another way for writing the damping part of the two-dimensional ordinary differential equation. This damping part is related to the action of an ideal filter. The analytical methods of nonlinear dynamics are essentially the study tools (averaging and Melnikov methods) of the model, supposing that the amplitude of the external sinusoidal force is sufficiently small. A first part deals with the autonomous model (i.e. without an external force), in the situation without damping (conservative case), and in presence of damping. This part is dealt from qualitative methods of nonlinear dynamics. The evolution of equilibrium points, stable and unstable saddle manifolds and limit cycles are studied when a parameter varies. In the nonautonomous case, the existence and the bifurcations of harmonic and subharmonic solutions are shown using the second-order averaging method and the subharmonic Melnikov function. The chaos existence is proved from the Melnikov analysis. Bifurcation curves related to rank-\(n\) subharmonic oscillations and chaotic behaviors are obtained from numerical simulations, when the driving frequency varies.
