For a vector operator algebra \(V\) and a \(V\)-module \(M\), the authors define the radical \(J_M(V)\) to be the subspace of elements whose zero modes are acting on \(M\) as zero operators. Let \(L(n)\) be the Virasoro operators and let \(V_1\) be the weight-1 subspace of \(V\). If \(V\) is rational and \(C_2\)-finite, and satisfies \(L(1)V_1=0\), the authors prove \(J_M(V)= (L(-1)+L(0))V\). Moreover, they prove that an admissible \(V\)-module \(M\) is irreducible if and only if its homogeneous subspaces are irreducible under the action of zero modes of the vertex operators.
