A method for finding exact travelling front solutions and standing (periodic and pulse) wave solutions of reaction-diffusion (R-D) systems with polynomial nonlinearities \[ \frac{\partial u}{\partial t}=d_u\frac{\partial^2u}{\partial x^2}+ \Phi(u,v),\quad \frac{\partial v}{\partial t}=d_v\frac{\partial^2v}{\partial x^2}+ \Psi(u,v), \] where \(\Phi(u,v)\) and \(\Psi(u,v)\) are polynomials in \(u\) and \(v\) is proposed. The original system is transformed to a new system where the new independent variable is a dependent variable of the original system. Solutions of the new system are expressible as polynomials and after solving for the coefficients of these polynomials the solutions to the original system are obtained by integrating a first-order differential equation. The method is applied to several specific R-D systems: a two-component Lotka-Volterra system, the Gray-Scott model of a cubic autocatalytic reaction, the Noyes-Field model of the Belousov-Zhabotinskij reaction, two- and three-component models for quadratic solutions. The method is applicable also to other non-integrable dispersive equations such as generalized KdV-Burgers' equation, generalized KdV equation and so on to which the usual Painlevé analysis cannot be applied.
