A classification of compact anti-self-dual four-manifolds admitting bi-Hermitian structures has recently been obtained by \textit{M. Pontecorvo} [Math. Ann. 309, 159-177 (1997; Zbl 0893.53026)]. \textit{V. Apostolov}, \textit{P. Gauduchon} and \textit{G. Grantcharov} [Proc. Lond. Math. Soc. 79, 414-428 (1999; Zbl 1035.53061)] presented results aiming at a classification of compact non-ASD bi-Hermitian surfaces, after finding such structures on \(T^4\), especially when the first Betti number is even. In the odd case some other results are also collected. The present paper is a sequel to that paper, it is based on and extends previous results. Specifically, it is shown that if the first Betti number is odd (and therefore the surface of non-Kähler type) then, with respect to either complex structure, such a manifold has Kodaira dimension \(-\infty\) (i.e., is of class VII). Moreover, it must be either a special Hopf or an Inoue surface in the strongly bi-Hermitian case, or obtained by blowing-up a minimal class VII surface with curves in the non-strongly bi-Hermitian case.
