The paper starts with the observation that a hypergroup \(K\) with Haar measure is discrete if and only if the Banach algebra of all bounded Borel measures on \(K\) has the so-called weak fixed point property; this fact is well-known in group theory. The author presents a couple of variants of this equivalence under different conditions like amenability or Følner conditions. Moreover, fixed point properties for affine actions of \(K\) are studied. In particular, connections between these fixed point properties, amenability, and Weil subhypergroups are given.
