In this paper, the authors consider the abstract Hammerstein equation \[ NFu=u, \] where \(E\) is a Banach space, \(C\) is a cone contained in \(E\), \(N: E \to E\) is a completely continuous increasing operator and \(F: C \to C\) is a continuous mapping. They establish some existence results for positive solutions to the above equation considering the cases where \(N\) is a positively \(1\)-homogeneous operator or not. The results stated in a general setting are used to prove existence results for positive solutions to the \(\phi\)-Laplacian boundary value problem \[ -(\phi(u'))(t)=a(t)f(t,u(t)),\quad t\in (0,1) , \] with Dirichlet boundary conditions \[ u(0)=u(1)=0 \] or with mixed boundary conditions \[ u(0)=u'(1)=0. \]
