A domain \(\Omega\subset\mathbb R^{n+1}\) with a \(C^2\)-boundary \(\partial\Omega\) is said to be weakly mean convex if the mean curvature is non-negative on the boundary \(\partial\Omega\). It is proved that a necessary and sufficient condition for weak mean convexity is that the distance function is superharmonic in the distribution sense. A Hardy type inequality on weakly mean convex \(C^2\)-domains with a best constant is also established.
