The authors consider the 2D Cauchy problem for a nonlinear four-parameter Boussinesq system for long-wavelength, small-amplitude gravity surface water waves derived from the incompressible Euler equations with free surface. It can be proved that this problem has a unique solution for long time intervals of order \(1/\varepsilon \). In this way the rigorous justification as asymptotic models to the full Euler equations with free surface is achieved.
