In this paper, the action of an \(n\)-group \((G,f)\) on a set \(A\) and the stabilizer \(G_a\) of \(a\in A\), are defined. Also, the notion of representations of \(n\)-groups is introduced. We remark that although this is not the first attempt to study representations of \(n\)-groups, these authors' method is the most natural generalization of the notion of representation from binary to \(n\)-ary groups. The main properties of representations of \(n\)-groups with a special focus on ternary groups are investigated. The connections between these representations and those of retract groups [see \textit{W. A. Dudek} and \textit{J. Michalski}, Demonstr. Math. 15, 783-805 (1982; Zbl 0523.20045)] and covering groups [\textit{E. L. Post}, Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 48, 208-350 (1940; Zbl 0025.01201)] are also investigated. Finally, introducing the concept of normal \(n\)-subgroups of an \(n\)-group \((G,f)\) as a sub-\(n\)-group with property \(f(\overset{(n-3)} a,\overline a,h,a)\in H\) for all \(h\in H\) and \(a\in G\), the authors show that the representation theory of \(n\)-groups reduces to the following three problems: 1. representations of \(b\)-derived \(n\)-groups from Abelian groups; 2. determining all normal \(n\)-subgroups; 3. representation theory of binary groups.
