The authors consider various phase transition models, such as the Cahn-Hilliard equation and the Allen-Cahn and the mass conserving Allen-Cahn equation. They present formal asymptotics for the sharp-interface limits by using the standard method of inner and outer expansions. The results indicate, at least up to second order of maching expansions, a structural resemblance of the so-called phase-field function, when the mass is conserved. Moreover, some numerics for the Cahn-Hilliard flow are provided.
