The paper deals with two prototypical flux-saturated problems, namely \[ u_t=\nu \Bigl({{|u|(|u|^{m-1}u)_x}\over{\sqrt{1+\nu^2 c^{-2}\bigl|(|u|^{m-1}u)_x\bigr|^2}}}\Bigr)_x \qquad -\infty<x<\infty \] and \[ u_t=\nu \Bigl({{|u|u_x}\over{\sqrt{u^2+\nu^2 c^{-2}|u_x|^2}}}\Bigr)_x \qquad -\infty<x<\infty, \] where \(\nu, c>0\) and \(m>1\). Regularity and smoothing results are obtained. Moreover, the existence of traveling waves, the evolution of discontinuous interfaces, and waiting time features are studied. The so-called ``mass coordinate'' of Lagrange is used to establish regularity by studying dual problems with regularity features typical for second-order elliptic problems.
