The author announces results about the classification of automorphism groups of algebraic K3 surfaces with finite automorphism groups. Let X be a K3 surface. Assume Aut(X) is finite, consider a nowhere vanishing holomorphic 2-form \(\omega_ X\) on X and an automorphism \(g\in Aut(X)\). g acts on \({\mathbb{C}}\{\omega_ X\}\) as \(g^*\omega_ X=\alpha_ X(g)\cdot \omega_ X\), \(\alpha_ X(g)\in {\mathbb{C}}\); \(\alpha_ X: Aut(X)\to {\mathbb{Z}}/m,\) where \({\mathbb{Z}}/m\) is a cyclic group of m-th root of unity in \({\mathbb{C}}^*.\) X is said to be general if the image of \(\alpha_ X\) is at most of order 2, special otherwise. The author proves that (i) if X is general, Aut(X) is either \(\sigma_ 3\times {\mathbb{Z}}/2\), \({\mathbb{Z}}/2\times {\mathbb{Z}}/2\), or \({\mathbb{Z}}/2\), or \(\{\) \(1\}\) ; (ii) if X is special, Aut(X) is a cyclic extension of one of the above groups.
