The authors study the evolutionary \(p\)-Laplace equation \[ {\partial u\over\partial t}= \nabla\cdot(|\nabla u|^{p-2}\nabla u) \] in the cylinder \(\Omega_T= \Omega\times(0, T)\) with lateral boundary values \[ u=\infty\quad\text{at }\partial\Omega\times (0, T). \] Here \(\Omega\) is a bounded domain in \(\mathbb{R}^n\). The cases \(1<p<2\) and \(p=1\) are treated. The infinite lateral boundary values require a delicate notion of solution. The so-called entropy large solutions, introduced by the authors of this paper, are also distributional ones, but their energy is infinite. In particular, questions of existence and uniqueness are addressed. The initial values \(u(x,0)\) are (locally) summable. The case \(p>2\) would lead to a blow-up.
