An energy-based anisotropic damage model at finite strains for ductile fracture is described. The constitutive model is developed within the general framework of continuum thermodynamics for irreversible processes by identifying a proper set of internal variables together with their associated generalized forces. Three major anisotropies are considered, including anisotropic elasticity, anisotropic plasticity and anisotropic damage. The physical implications, mathematical restrictions, and numerical implementations, as well as practical applications are discussed in some detail.
