In any associative ring \(R\), a subring \(B\) is a biideal if \(BRB \subseteq B\), and is a \(^*\)-biideal if also \(B^* \subseteq B\) when \(R\) has an involution, \(^*\). The authors prove that the descending chain condition on \(^*\)-biideals of \(R\) is inherited by its Jacobson radical \(J(R)\), and that d.c.c. on \(^*\)-biideals is equivalent to \(R\) and \(J(R)\) being Artinian. Also, the a.c.c. on \(^*\)-biideals of \(R\) forces the prime radical of \(R\) to be nilpotent with finitely generated additive group. Some results obtained for not necessarily associative rings yield the following for associative rings: (1) \(R[x]\) has a.c.c. on \(^*\)-biideals if and only if \(R\) is a finite semi-prime ring; and (2) for \(R\) commutative, a.c.c. on biideals is equivalent to \((I/I^ 2,+)\) is finitely generated for every ideal \(I\) of \(R\).
