For a classical link \(L\) with an odd (even) number of components, each of the exponents that appear in the normalized bracket polynomial \(f_L(A)\) is congruent to 0 (2) mod 4. In general, this result is false for virtual links. In this article, the author defines ``checkerboard colorability'' for virtual link diagrams, and shows that the result above is true for checkerboard colorable virtual links. The author also defines what it means for a virtual link diagram to be ``alternating,'' and notes that such diagrams are checkerboard colorable. The article concludes with an example of an alternating virtual knot whose \(f\)-polynomial (hence, Jones polynomial) is non-alternating.
