A one-dimensional evolution model of explosive degassing for a volcano with plugged conduit is proposed. The motion of the magma plug is due to presence of a gas cavity under it into which a gas flows from the underlying magma, which increases the pressure. Periodic explosions of gas occur and they are separated by long quiescent stages. This agrees with the observations data.
