Let \(f\) be a holomorphic modular form of weight \(k\) with respect to \(Sp(n,{\mathbb{Z}})\), which is a non-zero common eigenfunction of the Hecke algebra. Let \(L(s,f,\underline{St})\) be the L-function (in the sense of Langlands) attached to f and \(\underline{St}: SO(2n+1,{\mathbb{C}})\to GL(2n+1,{\mathbb{C}})\), the standard representation. We put \[ \Lambda(s,f,\underline{St})=(\Gamma -factor)\cdot L(s,f,\underline{St}). \] Using results of \textit{R. Weissauer} [Stabile Modulformen und Eisensteinreihen, Lect. Notes Math. 1219 (1986; Zbl 0596.10023)], we prove the following: Suppose \(k\geq n\). Then (i) \(\Lambda(s,f,\underline{St})\) is entire if \(f\not\in B_ k^ n(2n)\), where \(B_ k^ n(2n)\) is a small space spanned by theta functions with spherical harmonics; otherwise \(\Lambda(s,f,\underline{St})\) has poles at \(s=0\) and 1, and is holomorphic elsewhere. In particular, \(\Lambda(s,f,\underline{St})\) is entire if \(4| n\). (ii) In case \(\Lambda(s,f,\underline{St})\) has poles, the residues are algebraic multiples of \((f,f)\), the Petersson norm of f (under suitable normalization on \(f\)). We also give algebraicity results for critical values of \(L(s,f,\underline{St})\), which are supplementary to the works of several authors (Harris, Sturm, Garrett, Böcherer).
