Let \(X\) be a Calabi-Yau hypersurface in the Grassmannian \(\mathrm{Gr}(2,4)\). One way to construct a family of Calabi-Yau manifolds that is mirror to \(X\) (in the sense of mirror symmetry) was described by \textit{V. V. Batyrev} et al. [Nucl. Phys., B 514, No. 3, 640--666 (1998; Zbl 0896.14025)]. First degenerate (the Plücker embedding of) \(\mathrm{Gr}(2,4)\) to a singular toric variety, then resolve the nodes, to obtain a manifold \(\widehat X\) that is related to \(X\) by a generalized conifold transition. (We have taken the liberty to simplify the notation of the paper slightly.) Applying the standard (toric) mirror symmetry construction to \(\widehat X\) gives a family of Calabi-Yau threefolds \(\widehat X^*\), which when subjected to another conifold transition (degeneration followed by small resolution) yields a family \(X^*\) mirror to \(X\). Another mirror construction embeds \(X\) as a complete intersection in \({\mathbb P}^5\), to which the Batyrev-Borisov construction can be applied directly to yield a family \(\widetilde X^*\). \ par This paper shows that the two constructions are equivalent. The first step is to establish a birational equivalence between \(X^*\) and \(\widetilde X^*\). This follows easily from an explicit map between the tori of the ambient toric varieties. The second step, which is the core of the paper, is to show that this birational map of tori extends to their partially resolved compactifications.
