This paper concerns the stability of linear autonomous differential equations of the form (*) \(\dot x(t)=Ax(t),\) \(t\geq 0\), where \(x\in R^ n\) and A is a real constant (\(n\times n)\) matrix. A nonempty subset of \(R^ n\), say G, is said to be positively invariant (with respect to motions of (*)) if for each initial state \(x_ 0\in G\), the motion emanating from \(x_ 0\) remains in G. Similarly, if for every \(x_ 0\in G\) one has \(e^{At}x_ 0\to 0\) as \(t\to \infty\), then G is said to be asymptotically stable. The main result of the paper proves that a necessary and sufficient condition for asymptotic stability of a given closed, convex, pointed and positively invariant cone \(C\subset R^ n\) is A\(x\in C\), \(x\in C\Rightarrow x=0\).
