This paper deals with diagonal decoupling of multivariable systems \(\dot x=Ax+Bu\), \(y=Cx\) with p outputs and m inputs by using state feedback \(u=Fx+Gv\). It is clear that right invertibility of (C,A,B) is a necessary condition for state feedback decoupling. This implies that \(m>p\). Through the paper right invertibility is assumed. Since G is not regular for the case \(m>p\), complete conclusions for this problem have not yet obtained. A new sufficient condition of its solvability is provided. This condition is represented in terms of (C,A)-invariant subspaces containing the image of B and the kernel of the map C. Further, for the case \(m=3\) and \(p=2\) it is shown that this condition becomes necessary.
