Bei Marinus Ghetaldus zeigt sich deutlich, wie die Algebra seit dem Ende des 15. Jahrhunderts bei der Lösung geometrischer Probleme an Boden gewinnt. Anhand eines passenden Beispiels wird dies schrittweise aufgezeigt. Zudem geht Verf. auf die Bedeutung von Ghetaldus bei der Wiederherstellung des Apollonios (262?-190?) ein, denn er ''wanted to apply the method most probably used by Apollonius in his works'' (S. 211).
