The initial and boundary value problem of the flows of an ideal magnetohydrodynamic fluid (no electrical resistivity, i.e. the conductivity is infinite, no heat conductivity and no viscosity) is studied in a domain bounded by perfectly conducting walls. The initial value problem is separated from the boundary value problem and the authors speak of ``local in time'' solutions. The boundary value problem is studied in detail and all the theorems which are necessary to obtain existence and uniqueness are shown to be demonstrated.
