The author extends his earlier paper [Invent. Math. 73, 247-250 (1983; Zbl 0514.18009)] to show that the maps \(O({\mathbb{R}})\to O({\mathbb{R}})^{top}\) and \(Sp({\mathbb{R}})\to Sp({\mathbb{R}})^{top}\) from discrete to (classical) topology induce homology isomorphisms with finite coefficients. - As with the former paper the technique is to combine the author's K-theory/L- theory technology with Suslin's analogous results for general linear groups.
