Let \(II_{25,1}\) be a 26 dimensional even unimodular Lorentzian lattice. The author considers the monster Lie algebra M, which is a generalized Kac-Moody algebra with root lattice \(II_{25,1}\) constructed by using the vertex algebra. M contains as a subalgebra the monster Lie algebra defined by the author, \textit{J. H. Conway}, \textit{L. Queen} and \textit{N. J. A. Sloane} [Adv. Math. 53, 75-79 (1984; Zbl 0555.17004)]. The author shows that the simple roots of M are the simple roots of W and the positive multiples of \(\rho\), where W is the reflection group of \(II_{25,1}\) and \(\rho\) is a Weyl vector of a set of simple roots of W. The author proves that the multiplicities of the roots of M is 24 for simple roots and \(p_{24}(1-r^ 2/2)\) for any \(r\in II_{25,1}\), where \(p_{24}\) denotes the number of partitions into parts of 24 colors. It is mentioned that several similar infinite dimensional Lie algebras appear to correspond to some of the sporadic simple groups.
