This paper is a slight extension of a previous work by the first and third author [Linear Algebra Appl. 401, 109--117 (2005; Zbl 1075.65050)]. A method for the numerical computation of the eigenpairs of a quasi-diagonal matrix, in the case of a cluster of diagonal entries, is considered. Some numerical experiments, including one of a polymer model, are provided.
