The flag curvature plays in Finsler geometry the role of sectional curvature of Riemannian geometry. If \(M\) is a Finsler manifold and \(x\in M\) then a section \(P\subset T_xM\) cannot completely determine its Gaussian curvature. One shall pick a vector \(y\in P\) to play the role of flagpole. Then the flag, consisting of the section and the flagpole, will tell us its curvature \(K(x, y, P)\). The given Finsler structure is called \textit{of scalar curvature} if \(K\) depends only on the flagpole. In contrast to it, Zhongmin Shen suggests a parallel notion: a Finsler metric is \textit{of sectional flag curvature} if \(K\) depends only on the section \(P\). The present paper is a very interesting study of these metrics.
