A class of continuous operators \(T:C[0,1]\to C[0,1]\) is described that satisfy \(\lim_{k\to\infty}\|T^k-L\|=0\), where the norm is the \(\infty\)-norm and \(L\) is the operator that associates with an \(f\in C[0,1]\) its linear interpolant in the endpoints \(0\) and \(1\). This generalizes a classical result of \textit{R. P. Kelisky} and \textit{T. J. Rivlin} [Pac.\ J.\ Math.\ 21, 511--520 (1967; Zbl 0177.31302)] that has the same result, but for \(T\) the Bernstein operator \(B_m\) associating with \(f\in C[0,1]\) its Bernstein interpolating polynomial of degree \(m\). Also, a generalization of another classical result of \textit{S. Karlin} and \textit{Z. Ziegler} [J. Approximation Theory 3, 310--339 (1970; Zbl 0199.44702)] for Bernstein operators is given. It concerns a sequence \(\{T_n\}\) of bounded operators of the same type as \(T\) and conditions of the sequence \(\{T_n\}\) and on the increasing sequence of integers \(\{k(n)\}\) such that \(\lim_{n\to\infty}\|T_n^{k(n)}-L\|=0\). In the classical Bernstein case, \(T_n=B_n\) and \(\lim_{n\to\infty} k(n)/n=\infty\), while here the latter condition involves the spectral properties (essentially the spectral norm) of \(T_n\).
