For a function \(f\in C(T)\) where T is the one-dimensional torus \({\mathbb{R}}/2\pi {\mathbb{Z}}\) let \[ f(x)\sim \sum^{\infty}_{k=0}a_ k \cos kx+b_ k \sin kx=\sum^{\infty}_{k=0}A_ k(x) \] be the Fourier series of f. Let \(S_ n(f)(x)=\sum^{n}_{k=0}A_ k(x)\) be the partial sums and \(V_{n,m}\) the de la Vallée Poussin means. For a permutation \(\nu\) : \({\mathbb{N}}\leftrightarrow {\mathbb{N}}\) write \(f(x)\sim^{\nu}\sum^{\infty}_{k=0}A_{\nu (k)}(x),\) and the corresponding partial sums are denoted by \(_{\nu}S_ n\). The main result of this paper is that for \(f\in C(T)\) there exist some \(\nu\) and \(n_ k\) (both depending on f) such that \(_{\nu}S_{n_ k}(f)\to f\) uniformly in T. This result follows from another theorem which asserts that for \(f\in L^ 2(T)\) there exist subsequences \(n_ k\leq N_ k\leq 2n_ k\to \infty\) and a permutation \(\nu\) for which \(\nu\) (j)\(\in [j/2,2j]\) and \[ \|_{\nu}S_{N_ k}-V_{n_ k,n_ k}\|_{\infty}\leq (\log \log n_ k)^{-1/2}. \]
