In [Arch. Ration. Mech. Anal. 183, No. 3, 21--58 (2007; Zbl 1157.35500)] the authors defined a viscosity solution for the gradient flow of the exterior Bernoulli free boundary problem. The aim of the paper under review is to prove that the associated energy is non increasing along the flow. For this goal, the authors build a discrete gradient flow in the sense of \textit{F. Almgren, J. E. Taylor} and \textit{L. Wang} [SIAM J. Control Optimization 31, No.~2, 387--438 (1993; Zbl 0783.35002)].
