The authors consider the operators \[ \widetilde{M_n}(f,x)= (n+1)\sum_{k=1}^np_{n,k}(x) \int_0^1p_{n,k-1}(t)f(t)\,dt+ (1-x)^nf(0), \] where \(x\in[0,1]\), \(f\in C[0,1]\), and \(p_{n,k}(x)=\binom{n}{k}x^k(1-x)^{n-k}\). They obtain an estimate of the rate of convergence of \(\widetilde{M_n}\) for functions of bounded variation and show that it is essentially optimal. The proof involves the decomposition technique and the exact bound of Bernstein basis functions. Furthermore, the complete asymptotic expansion of the operators \(\widetilde{M_n}\) is derived. The corresponding representation is a series of reciprocal factorials, for which the coefficients are calculated explicitly in a concise form.
