The Mehler-Heine type formula of Jacobi polynomials is extended to a class of multiple orthogonal polynomials of type II [see also \textit{T. Takata}, J. Approximation Theory 135, No. 2, 160--175 (2005; Zbl 1076.41019)]. Let \(p_n\) be multiple orthogonal polynomials satisfying the following four-terms recurrence relations \[ \begin{aligned} u_kp_{2k+1}+a_kp_{2k}+v_kp_{2k-1}+w_kp_{2k-2}&=zp_{2k},\\ u'_kp_{2k}+a'_kp_{2k-1}+v'_kp_{2k-2}+w'_kp_{2k-3}&=zp_{2k-1}, \end{aligned} \] were \(p_n(1)=1\). The main result is proved in Theorem 2.1: If Conditions 1, 2, 3 are fulfilled then we have the Mehler-Heine type formula \[ \lim_{n\to\infty}p_n(1-2z^2/n^2)=\Gamma(\alpha+1)(\sqrt{\lambda} z/2)^{-\alpha}J_\alpha(\sqrt{\lambda}z) \] for some \(\lambda\) and a certain \(\alpha\). This convergence is uniform on compact subsets of the complex \(z\)-plane. Properties of the ``classical'' multiple orthogonal polynomials are also given in Section 3.
