The author proposes an integral equation method for the biperiodic electromagnetic scattering, a special case of diffraction by crossed gratings. He adapts the Müller integral equation formulation of Maxwell's equations, which is a Fredholm equation of the second kind. The periodic Green function is calculated with Ewald's method. To compute the integrals with a trapezoidal rule, the integrals with singular kernels are regularized by smoothing and adding an appropriate correction term. Numerical results for the case of a smooth surface and normally incident light confirm third order convergence.
