For any zero-dimensional Hausdorff space \(X\), a description up to equivalence is given for the partially ordered set \({\mathcal L}_0(X)\) of all zero-dimensional locally compact Hausdorff extensions of \(X\); this description is provided in terms of Boolean algebras. It is also established that there exists an isomorphism (of partial orders) between the set \({\mathcal L}_0(X)\) and the set \({\mathcal L P}_0(X)\) of all separated zero-dimensional local proximity spaces on \(X\). Another group of results gives information on extensions of continuous maps between zero-dimensional spaces over their local compactifications. For the classes \({\mathcal P}\in\{\)continuous, open, quasi-open, skeletal, perfect, injective, surjective, dense embeddings\(\}\) necessary and sufficient conditions are given for a map to guarantee that its extension belongs to \(\mathcal P\).
