The aim of this paper is to derive a Moser-Trudinger type inequality for the \(k\)-Hessian equation, which occurs in case \(k=n/2\). Recall that when \(\Omega\) is a domain in \(\mathbb R^n\), \(n=2\) and \(k=1\) then this inequality corresponds to the embedding \(W_0^{1,2}(\Omega)\hookrightarrow L_\Phi(\Omega)\), where \(L_\Phi(\Omega)\) is an Orlicz space whose Young function behaves like \(t\mapsto\exp(t^2)\). Let us note that similar results for the Sobolev type equation (\(k<n/2\)) has been proved by the second author [Indiana Univ. Math. J. 43, No. 1, 25--54 (1994; Zbl 0805.35036)] and for convex functions by \textit{K.-S. Tso} [Ann. Inst. Henri Poincaré, Anal. Non Linéaire 7, No. 2, 113--122 (1990; Zbl 0715.35031)].
