Symplectic half flat manifolds are (in general non-integrable) SU(3)-structures on manifolds of real dimension six. They are generalizations of Calabi-Yau manifolds and fit into the scheme of N.~Hitchin's generalized complex structures, whence they are also known under the name ``special generalized Calabi-Yau manifolds''. More precisely, a symplectic half flat manifold is a symplectic manifold \((M,\omega)\) endowed with an almost complex structure \(J\) such that \(\omega(\_,J\_)\) is Hermitian and positive definite, and a complex volume form \(\psi\) whose real part is closed and which is such that \(\psi\wedge\bar\psi=-\frac{4}{3}\omega^3\). The main aim of the article is the construction of several examples of such structures. First, the authors construct examples on compact quotients of six-dimensional solvable Lie groups. Second, they construct a one-parameter deformation of the standard Calabi-Yau structure on the six-dimensional torus through symplectic half flat structures which are non-integrable for all nonzero values of the parameter. Next, they prove existence of an example of a compact symplectic half flat manifold for which the real part of \(\psi\) is exact (which is impossible for Calabi-Yau manifolds). The last section of the article discusses special symplectic manifolds, which can be viewed as a four-dimensional analog of symplectic half flat manifolds.
