Let \(X\) be a complex Banach space. The authors introduce the notions of complex strongly extreme points, complex midpoint local uniform rotundity, complex locally uniform rotund points. As in the case of real scalars, all these are complex extreme points and any complex locally uniform rotund point is a complex strongly extreme point. These notions are then characterized in the case of Musielak--Orlicz function spaces \(L_M\). Interestingly, the notions of complex strongly extreme point and complex locally uniform rotund point coincide for these spaces. It may be noted that in a series papers in the 1980's, C.\,X.\thinspace Wu and his coauthors studied the notions of complex extreme points, uniform convexity, etc.\ for \(L_M\).
