The author studies equations of the form \(Tu+B(u)=\lambda u\), where \(T\) is a linear bounded self-adjoint operator in the Hilbert space and \(B\) is a continuous map defined in a neighborhood of \(0\), such that \(B(0)=0\). More precisely, assuming that \((\lambda _0, 0)\) is a bifurcation point of the considered problem and \(\{(\lambda _R, u_R)\}_{R\in W\subset (0,R_0)}\) is a family of its nontrivial solutions such that \(\|u_R\|=R\) and \(\lambda _R\to \lambda _0\), the author proves that \(\lambda _R=\lambda _0+O(R^{p-1})\) as \(R\to 0\), provided that \(B(u)=O(\|u_R\|^p)\) as \(u\to 0\) for some \(p>1\). Some further technical assumptions allow to get concrete lower and upper bounds for \(\lambda _R\) and the existence of more than one solution \((\lambda _R, u_r)\) such that \(\|u_R\|=R\). Applications are given concerning semilinear elliptic eigenvalue problems in bounded domains of \(\mathbb{R}^n\).
