In this work is discussed the problem of existence of approximate fixed points of continuous mappings. It is shown that a selfmap \(T\) of a complete metric space has a fixed point, which is both approximate and contractive, if \(T\) is a Dugundji contraction, a Meir-Keeler contraction or even if \(T\) is a Matkowski contraction. Next, a few results concerning the connection between some fixed point theorems and Browder's theorem are given. In conclusion, many types of contractions from the literature are equivalent or particular cases of Browder's definition.
