The authors consider the varieties generated by two specific four-element semigroups, neither of which is idempotent or permutative. They explicitly determine the subvarieties of the join of these two varieties. The authors state that these results also constitute the last step in determining the subvarieties of the varieties generated by each of the ten four-element semigroups that are neither idempotent nor permutative.
