Let \(K\) be a compact Hausdorff space, \(E\) and \(F\) Banach spaces and \(C(K,E)\) the Banach space of all continuous \(E\)-valued functions on \(K\). It is well known that every linear bounded operator \(T\) from \(C(K,E)\) into \(F\) has an (operator valued) finitely additive representing measure \(m\) so that \(T(f)=\int f dm\) for every \(f\) in \(C(K,E)\). In this paper characterizations of Dunford-Pettis and unconditionally converging operators on \(C(K,E)\) are given in terms of their representing measure, and some new classes of operators are introduced, extending previous known results. Next, the following situation is considered: Let \(K\) and \(S\) be compact Hausdorff spaces and \(\theta\) a continuous function from \(K\) onto \(S\). Then the map \(f\mapsto f\cdot \theta\) embeds isometrically \(C(S,E)\) as a closed subspace of \(C(K,E)\). It is proved that every operator on \(C(S,E)\) with strongly bounded representing measure can be extended to the whole space \(C(K,E)\). Cases in which the extended operator is of the same type as the original are studied, generating the result proved in [\textit{F. Bombal}, On weakly compact operators on spaces of vector valued continuous functions, to appear in Proc. Am. Math. Soc.] for weakly compact operators under more severe restrictions. Some applications concerning to the coincidence of different classes of operators on \(C(K,E)\) are also given.
