An element a of a subset T of a semigroup S is called left quasi- increasing relative to T if \(aT=T\) and there exists a subset T'\(\subset T\) with \(aT'=T\). The right q-increasing property is defined dually and it is proved that an element cannot be both left and right q-increasing. Completely regular, periodic and left separative semigroups have no left q-increasing elements. Sufficient conditions for the existence of q- increasing elements are given and minimal subsets relative to q- increasing elements exist. Unsolved problems about increasing elements are addressed by means of Szep's decompositions or the \(\Gamma\)- decomposition of S.
