    The paper deals with the different notions of stability for the equation of homomorphism. These different definitions are compared and for each of them theorems are proved of the following form: Let \(E_ 1\), \(V_ 1\), \(E_ 2\), \(V_ 2\) be sets with four binary operations \(''+'': E_ 1\times E_ 1\to E_ 1\), ''\(\cdot '': V_ 1\times V_ 1\to V_ 1\), ''\(\oplus '': E_ 2\times E_ 2\to E_ 2\), and ''\(\odot '': V_ 2\times V_ 2\to V_ 2\), and let \(\rho_ 1\), \(\rho_ 2\) be metrics on \(V_ 1\) and \(V_ 2\) respectively; let \(f: E_ 1\to V_ 1\) and \(g: E_ 2\to V_ 2\). Under suitable properties connecting \(E_ 1\) with \(E_ 2\) and \(V_ 1\) with \(V_ 2\), the stability of the equation \(f(x+y)=f(x)\cdot f(y)\) is equivalent to that of the equation \(g(x\oplus y)=g(x)\odot g(y).\) Several examples are given.
