The classical Nevanlinna-Pick interpolation problem is to find a function f analytic on the unit disk and bounded there by 1 in modulus which takes prescribed values at some prescribed points in the open unit disk. A variation of the problem is to allow some fixed finite number k of poles inside the disk and demand that the function be bounded by 1 in modulus on the boundary of the disk. A still more complicated variation is to allow some of the interpolating points to be on the boundary of the unit disk with associated interpolating values (interpreted as radial limits of the unknown function) also of modulus 1 and with a bound prescribed on the radial derivatives on the unknown function. For application in engineering what is of interest is the analogue of this problem for matrix valued functions. In this paper the authors show how their earlier approach (involving Krein space geometry and generalized Beurling-Lax theorems) to Nevanlinna-Pick interpolation (the case where all interpolating points are inside the open unit disk) can be adapted to handle the boundary case as well. Included are the analogues of the Hankel operator, Sarason model operator and of the Pick matrix for this case, as well as the linear fractional map parametrization of the set of all solutions.
