A nonlinear parabolic one dimensional model equation arising in combustion theory is considered. This equation, due to Sivashinsky, describes the evolution of the perturbed front flame. The author establishes the exitence of steady progressive waves with sufficiently large period. The proof consists in setting the problem into a nonlinear eigenvalue problem for periodic solutions; then a standard bifurcation theorem is applied.
