Let k[G] be the group ring of a finite group G over a field k whose characteristic does not divide the order of G. Let H be a subgroup of G, \(\Delta\) the centralizer of k[H] in k[G], and D the centralizer of \(\Delta\) in k[G]. In this paper the author proves that \(k[G]\otimes_ DK[G]\) is a direct summand of a finite direct sum of copies of k[G] as a two-sided k[G]-module. k[G] is called an H-separable extension of D (see the author's paper [Nagoya Math. J. 35, 31-45 (1969; Zbl 0179.335)]). It is pointed out that if the characteristic of k does divide the order of G and the index of H in G is a unit in k, then k[G] is a separable extension of k[H] (the author and \textit{K. Sugano} [J. Math. Soc. Japan 18, 360-373 (1966; Zbl 0178.368)]). In this case the author gives examples to show that k[G] may or may not be an H-separable extension of D.
